Adolescence affects us all in different ways. For us, it has manifested itself in the form of teenage acne, which has given me the opportunity to test herbs and tools of a more natural nature. I have also been able to expand my knowledge about what causes acne and how we can reduce acne.
Growing up, we used very drying products that did more harm than good. It was also unthinkable to use oils directly on the face. With help from the world of herbs, I have completely switched to natural skin care. I make many products myself (if it is not too complicated) and I usually get the most beautiful gifts in the world in the form of homemade soaps.
What can cause acne?
Acne and pimples are the result of a certain type of bacteria that has been given too much leeway. You can get wonderful aha-experiences by listening to Anna Sparre's podcast episode about the skin microbiome on 4Health . One measure is therefore to fight the bad bacteria. As you can see from the picture below, I have mainly tested silver water (the health food store offered a silver soap that I think works great) or a few drops of Tea tree essential oil. Note, it is very strong and you want to avoid eyes and sensitive areas.
I love the podcast Örtsystrar's episode about acne and pimples . There, Anna and Maria refer to a bactericidal soap they made, which has been very helpful. The exclusive soap can be made yourself and contains activated charcoal and clay, among other things. You can find the recipe here .
Next, you want to attract the good bacteria to you. The approach is the same as trying to build a better environment in the stomach and intestinal region. You want to create an environment that is favorable for the good bacteria. I even made a facial spray of aloe vera gel and probiotics. I added probiotics in the form of sauerkraut juice. Haha.. one of my crazier recipes. See step 2 below in the picture.
If you've been treating your skin externally according to the three-step rocket, as you see in the picture above, and aren't experiencing sufficient results, it's time to bring out more powerful artillery. Consider how you support your skin from the inside out.
Internally, you can support your hormonal imbalance with the herb Chasteberry (in the image above this is referred to as Chasteberry / Vitex Agnus Castus). I prefer to take Chasteberry in tincture form rather than ground herb. I have used it myself for many years for hormonal balance. But those who have tried Chasteberry for acne are very satisfied.
You should also keep in mind to support the liver, our largest organ.
What herbs can you use to help? Dandelion and Burdock are my big favorites. My favorite tea is made from the three roots dandelion, burdock and wormwood. I let this decoction simmer for half an hour and then steep overnight. I drink a liter of this decoction for three weeks. Love it!
What should you not eat when you have acne?
As you know, diet is the most important factor. I haven't included it in the picture above for reasons of space, but also because it is a given ingredient for beautiful skin. So review your diet! And while you do that, decide to add some kind of fermented food daily. The fermented food contains good bacteria, which is needed to build diversity in our stomach and intestinal flora, which in turn strengthens the bacterial diversity of the skin.
Good bacteria are needed! Add fermented foods daily, such as sauerkraut and kimchi. I prefer it to probiotics in capsules.
