Right now I'm crazy about hemp milk. I found some home-grown hemp seeds here in Croatia. The grower said I should store the seeds in the fridge. When it's time to make a batch of hemp milk, I take out the bag and dose what I need. The seeds have lasted forever that way.
What makes me so fond of hemp milk is the taste. It's fresh and nutty at the same time.
Do you have to strain the nut milk?
It is very easy to make the nut milk. I have streamlined the process to the max and do not change the water. Nor do I strain the milk when it is ready. But of course you choose how you want to do it.
RECIPE
1 cup hemp seeds
1 liter of water
1 pinch of Himalayan salt
I start by grinding the hemp seeds in my small coffee grinder. I pour the mixed seeds into a glass bottle that holds one liter. I add one liter of water and a pinch of Himalayan salt (does it have to be Himalayan salt? No, but it feels a little extra luxurious with the pink salts ❤️).
I let the bottle sit in the fridge for a day, shake it a couple of times. Then it's done. I don't bother straining the milk because I don't mind the crushed seeds. But I have a cloth strainer or nut milk bag that works well for straining it if I wanted to.
How long does nut milk last?
I think the milk looks like it will keep well in the fridge for 4 days.
Which nut milk is your favorite?
You can of course make milk from other nuts and seeds. I have tried making milk from almonds, oats, cashews and sunflower seeds. And sometimes I have mixed different types of nuts. Variety is good, but right now, as I said, hemp milk is the way to go. I like the simplicity. With other milks, you should change the water and strain it, to get the best taste. The easiest way is to have a nut milk bag to strain with.
Hemp - a useful crop
Hemp is a hardy and nutritious plant in the Canabis sativa genus. It is cultivated throughout the EU and has increased significantly in recent years. It is very useful as a crop, as it binds carbon dioxide, for example. The peeled seeds are also very useful as food. Hemp is very rich in protein and contains large amounts of fiber, vitamins, omega 3 and minerals.
