Marigold season | Make your own marigold oil | DIY

Calendula officinalis
Once you start with natural skin care, there's no going back. For us, at least. The thing we use the most on our skin is calendula oil. Try making your own oil. It's so easy!
The marigold symbolizes the sun. And that's pretty much how it feels when we rub the oil over our skin on a gray day in November. Sun, warmth, softness, glow. Something else also happens, which is a little harder to put into words. We feel protected and grounded.

DO IT LIKE THIS | DIY
Pick the marigolds (Calendula officinalis) and fill a well-cleaned glass jar. We let the flowers dry a little since it had recently rained. Fill the jar with organic olive oil (or another favorite oil that you like the smell and feel of). Put the lid on and place on the windowsill, where the sun can activate the oil and release the herb's active ingredients. We wanted to kick-start our oil and placed it on the warm stove for a couple of hours.

Let the jar sit for about 2 weeks. We didn't grind the marigolds first because they look so beautiful in the oil. But you can do that if you want.

When the oil is ready, we strain it and add a few drops of essential oil.
When fresh flowers are not available, we make the oil from dried marigolds instead. The oil is best stored in the refrigerator.

CALENDULA OIL USE
We use the calendula oil directly on the skin, after the shower. When the skin is still wet. It is easy to massage the oil into the skin and it dries quickly.
At Örtfabriken you will find Marigold in several of our tinctures. We love using it in our recipes as it often acts as a support for other herbs. It is included in our popular blends such as Happy Bitters and Happy&Relaxed .
