Rosemary oil for hair | Recipe

Today, I planned to harvest rosemary and make my own rosemary oil for my hair. My hair has become so dry from the calcium-rich water here in Croatia. Can rosemary oil bring it back to life? We'll see.

Here you can see me harvesting from the garden I'm borrowing while I'm in Croatia. Rosemary, various types of lavender, and a succulent whose name I don't know yet. Harvesting rosemary is a strong aromatic experience, and if I could, I would send out the scent here on the airwaves.

A couple of years ago, I started longing to care for rosemary and similar plants, and somehow, it happened. It's so interesting to experience the plants in their proper habitat. Rosemary grows everywhere in Croatia. According to my aunt, it's a "rustico," meaning it's a hardy plant that doesn't need much. It thrives well, both through very cold (sub-zero) and long periods of very high temperatures.

I harvest enough to fill a small glass jar. I've placed the glass jar in boiling water for a couple of minutes to clean it as much as possible. I choose a small jar, considering how much oil is needed to fill it to the brim.

I cut the rosemary into smaller pieces and fill the glass jar. Then I fill it with oil to the brim. I use what I have at home, and this time it was sesame oil. Sesame oil is warm and smooth, but perhaps a bit too strong in scent. We'll see how the scent turns out when the oil is ready.

Perhaps I should have cut the rosemary into even smaller pieces, but nothing stops me from doing so in a week or so. Now, my rosemary oil will infuse in sunlight for at least two weeks. Then I'll strain it and pour it into a nice bottle.

Rosemary has stimulating and uplifting properties. I hope it will give my hair what it craves. Perhaps I'll add a couple of drops of vitamin E for extra nourishment. The recommendation is to drop rosemary oil onto the scalp. It is said to stimulate hair growth and prevent hair loss. I often use oils, both on my skin and in my hair. But I haven't tried rosemary yet.

Have you used rosemary oil, and what do you think?
