For me, the books about hormones, the female body and herbs have been transformative. Knowledge-wise and for physical well-being. The books have been important tools for understanding our own menstrual cycle and how we can deal with hormonal imbalance, what PMS is and PMS symptoms.
Hope you also have the same experiences!
Here are our most beloved books about herbs for hormonal imbalance:
1. Herbal Remedies for Women by Amanda McQuade Crawford
Love everything this herbalist has written about hormones and herbs. You can easily listen to any of her podcasts.
2. The Complete Woman's Herbal by Anne McIntyre.
Such an incredibly beautiful and necessary book for anyone who wants to understand their female body better and how we can support it. It is beautifully illustrated and thoroughly describes different symptoms. For example, herbs for PMS and swollen breasts. Herbs for PMS and mood swings, etc.
3. Herbal Healing for Women by Rosemary Gladstar.
This book thoroughly explores adolescence, young adulthood, premenopause, menopause, and the years after. As usual, Rosemary Gladstar offers plenty of recipes and is inspiring for those who want to use more herbs in their everyday lives.
4. Hormone Intelligence by Aviva Romm came out in 2021 and is a big favorite of mine. I use it a bit like an encyclopedia and look it up whenever I get a question from my friends about the hormonal cycle.
We also want to add a book for men. Unfortunately, the range of literature that highlights herbs and alternative methods for male hormonal health is much more limited. The Male Herbal by James Green does this in an excellent way, both because it is deeply spiritual, funny and knowledgeable. It gave us an understanding of how herbs can be used with good results for both sexes.
Several years ago I read Martina Johansson 's book Hormonstark. Martina is a civil engineer who has switched from biohacking to a more balanced lifestyle. Her books Hormonstark are great for gaining knowledge about contraception and increasing our understanding of fertility. The book is not so herbal in other words.
