Garlic Elixir | Recipe with garlic and honey

I've fallen deeply in love with fresh garlic. I know it's not ideal to chew on garlic cloves and then socialize, but I can hardly resist. To mitigate the smell, I decided to make this garlic elixir instead.

There's something timeless about garlic and honey. When combined, a powerful blend emerges, uniting the pungent with the sweet. I borrowed this recipe from herbalist Kat Meier and her fantastic book Energetic Herbalism. I read the book over the summer and must say it's probably one of the best herbal books I've read. She puts into words what I can't articulate myself, and she ties together different herbal traditions into a system that is easy to understand. At the end of the book, she shares various warming recipes for the body, of which this garlic elixir is one way to boost an organism's energy.

I chose to make an elixir with garlic and honey, but she also suggests a recipe with garlic/honey and vinegar. Super simple! The honey envelops the garlic, transforming its strong flavor into something softer and rounder, while the honey itself becomes more potent. Here where I live, honey is an extremely valuable product that inherently builds immunity and protects. Top the honey with garlic and get an extra potent elixir.

Directions:
1. Peel garlic cloves
2. Fill a very clean glass jar two-thirds full with garlic cloves
3. Pour real honey to the brim
4. Screw on a lid and store in a dark and not too cold place
5. The elixir is ready after 24 hours
6. Eat the garlic cloves as they are

Always make a small batch the first time! Honey is expensive.

And as always when I prepare my herbs, I get a moment of presence. Small rituals in everyday life can give so much. Stirring the jar, watching the color change, smelling the scent that slowly develops. I create a thread of connection to the one who wrote about the recipe and to all those backward and forward in time who will also make this elixir.

I hope you also enjoy this recipe! Let me know if you make it.
