I had almost forgotten how good a ginger shot works. Sometime every winter I remember that I used to get happy from the ginger shot, but it's not until I start taking it that I remember in my body why. Usually I only juice ginger, but this time I got a feeling and had more ingredients. I would have liked to have had fresh turmeric, but I had to settle for turmeric powder.
Here's how to make homemade ginger shot :
- Ginger (a big piece of ginger, bigger than my hand)
- 2 tablespoons turmeric
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 squeezed lemon
- generously with real honey
I washed and cleaned the ginger. You don't need to peel the ginger for shots, but I remove the rough parts of the peel. Then I juiced the ginger and poured it into a well-cleaned one-liter glass bottle. I added the rest of the ingredients and filled with water. Then I generously seasoned with honey. I put the cap on the bottle and shook until the ingredients and honey had dissolved.
If you don't have a juicer, grate the ginger instead. Place the grated ginger in the glass bottle and fill with a little boiled water. Let the ginger soak in the lukewarm water for a while so that the ginger ingredients dissolve more easily. Add the other ingredients and fill the bottle with more cooled water. Put the lid on and shake so that all the ingredients, including the honey, dissolve. Decide if you think you need to strain the ingredients.
Super tasty! This time the shot was really strong from the ginger. My conclusion is to use a lot of ginger when you make a shot, so don't skimp on it.
Last but not least, I added pepper because they say it helps you absorb the turmeric more easily. Is that true? Anyway, I love black pepper.
Ginger threat and sustainability
I keep my shot in the fridge and drink it throughout the week. It keeps for a week in the fridge.
