Color your eggs with herbs!
Share with friends
Use herbs to dye your eggs this Easter. For these eggs you need alum and white wine vinegar (Alum is a natural ingredient that you can find at the pharmacy, among other places). It's natural and quite simple.
The eggs in the picture have been colored with St. John's Wort (darker yellow eggs), Beetroot (pink), Hibiscus (blue), Sage (light yellow) and Lavender (green).
Lavender is probably the favorite here at home.
HOW TO DO IT?
Hard boil the eggs.
Fill a cup with boiling water. Add 1 teaspoon of Alum and optionally 1 tablespoon of vinegar.
Take 2 tablespoons of the herb you want to dye with.
Add it to the cup of boiling water.
Add the egg.
Let the egg sit in the dye bath in the refrigerator overnight.
The great thing about this recipe is that you can use whatever you have at home. Try different dye baths and we'd love to see your pictures!
Happy Easter!
