There are so many fun ways to enrich your everyday diet. Our own journey to find a diet that suits us has been long. And painful, unfortunately. If we had known what we know now, our stomachs would have gotten better so much faster.
By far the most important step to achieving a more suitable diet is to remove what disturbs and creates imbalance. For us, it was gluten . And sugar and lactose.
Then comes the fun part. Adding all the good stuff. We have really enjoyed fermented foods. Sometimes we use probiotic capsules, but most of all fermented foods. Like sauerkraut (fresh, mind you!), kimchi, kombucha.
During the most difficult years, making your own bone marrow broths was a lifesaver in times of need. You can read more about bone broths and the special diet by searching on gaps. When time is short, there is a shortcut. It's making your own gelatin. Delicious, fast and fun.
We try to use spices at every meal. For example, cinnamon or cardamom in porridge. Cayenne and ginger in the wok. Oregano and thyme in the salad.
Bitter flavors have been such a boost. Bitter drops, like Happy Bitters , of course. But if that's not on hand, we add bitter foods like arugula, dandelion leaves, endive, parsley, etc.
Algae and Mushrooms are something we've been trying to add more of in recent years. It's a bit difficult but also a lot of fun. One way is to make your own broth for the miso soup, by soaking the Kombu seaweed. And then we add Wakame or Hiziki to the soup itself.
There are more mushrooms to choose from in the store these days. For example, Shiitake. Oh, delicious pieces fried with a little garlic. Or Oyster mushrooms. Make steaks from oyster mushrooms and zucchini (chop into small pieces), salt and fry on low heat for a long time. Crispy and delicious.
We make an infusion of herbs with our food. We choose nutritious and strengthening herbs - such as raspberry leaves and nettle. Or we make a decoction of dandelion, burdock and mallow roots.
And you ... don't feel any pressure or stress. No one does everything at once. Do something for your diet that makes you happy. And then you go for it.
