“All disease begins in the leaky gut” | Gut health

When I started my journey with herbs and health, it was my stomach that gave the first signals. But it took a long time to understand what was happening in my body and what was wrong. There wasn't much knowledge about IBS and leaky gut either. Now the situation is different. We have much more knowledge... but I wonder if our stomachs are feeling better?
The article "All disease begins in the leaky gut" by Alessio Fasano is based on the idea that the gut plays a central role in the body's overall balance. The author describes how the intestinal lining acts as a protective barrier between the outside world and the inside of the body, and how this barrier is designed to be selective – it allows nutrients to pass through, but keeps unwanted substances out.
A central concept in the article is intestinal permeability, often referred to as "leaky gut." It refers to a condition where the gut's barrier function becomes more permeable than normal. When this happens, substances that the body would otherwise not allow to pass can cross the intestinal wall and encounter the immune system.
The article highlights how this can create an increased burden on the body's system and how the gut, immune system, and inflammation are closely linked. Instead of viewing the body as divided into separate parts, the importance of understanding the interaction between different systems is emphasized.
Another important theme is that the gut's balance is affected by many factors, such as:
what we eat
how we live
stress
environment
and the body's own regulatory mechanisms
Fasano emphasizes that the gut should be viewed in a broader perspective. An imbalanced gut signals bodily imbalance.
Here I have compiled what I personally believe is the key to regaining my balance in the gut. Unfortunately, I realize that for me it is a constant effort. Once the gut has been damaged, it seems difficult to fully return to the problem-free state that once was. But the difference is that I now have the tools. Here are the three important cornerstones I use:

It has taken time to change my lifestyle and it takes time to incorporate this into everyday life. I started small. Removed different parts of my diet step by step. At the same time, I added what built up my gut. It takes time and it also takes a lot of time to cook, but as I said, it becomes a lifestyle. And nothing beats regaining balance in the gut.
