The burdock - the power of the roots!

We love burdock (Arctium lappa) and use it often. We usually make a decoction of burdock root, dandelion root and wormwood root. Let the decoction simmer on low heat for half an hour. Cover. We can drink this decoction for a long time, maybe three weeks. When we don't have time to make decoctions, we use tinctures instead.

Dosage: Take 1 teaspoon of burdock root to 2.5 dl of water.

Burdock grows abundantly in our latitudes. It is the root that is used. You harvest it in the fall when the power of the plant has found its way back into the soil and into the root. It is a biennial - so harvest it after the first year.

Burdock is a common herb and staple in Asian cuisine. It is called "gobo". We have been looking for fresh burdock root here in Asian grocery stores, without success. We would like to prepare it in a soup and will have to keep looking for it until it is time to harvest.

At Örtfabriken you will find burdock root in our tincture Happy Bitter .
