Locally produced Motherwort | Made in Sweden

When I founded Örtfabriken, I had a vision of co-creating herbal products with female herb growers in Sweden. Several years later, this wish is materializing. I don't quite understand how. But I know I am so happy to have met Agnes along the way, who grows the Motherwort you will soon hold in your hands.

Agnes from Nordiska Örter is a friend and herbalist. She is braver than most and has ended up in Uppsala from France, where she runs a garden with the vision of becoming the first female herb grower in Sweden. Together, we are creating a Motherwort tincture (Leonurus cardiaca), a plant connected to both the heart and tranquility. You might also know it by its English name, Motherwort. At Örtfabriken, we have called it Madame Motherwort, precisely because it is a madame and nothing less.

This Motherwort is grown from seed. It is harvested in June, where the fresh Motherwort is immediately processed into tincture. Making a tincture is a true craft. It takes about four weeks for the plant to steep in alcohol. This way, we extract the active ingredients in the best possible way. The tincture is filtered and poured into Örtfabriken's violet bottles, with glass that protects the valuable ingredients in the best way.

Agnes works manually, without agricultural machinery and without investments. In this way, it is only possible to produce a small quantity of tincture bottles. We are raising the price to make this possible. We hope you feel how important these herbal drops are and that you support us with your order! For you, for nature, and for all like Agnes and me who believe in the small-scale and handmade.

Both Örtfabriken and Nordiska Örter are run by women, driven by a desire to create something that can grow organically – just like the herbs themselves. We carry on a long tradition of female knowledge in herbalism and plant-based craftsmanship. This collaboration is not just a production collaboration; it is a tapestry of conversations, knowledge, and community. Perhaps you have listened to our Herbal Talks?
