Reishi | Immortality mushroom | Tincture

Here we present one of Örtfabriken's mushroom tinctures: Reishi (Ganoderma lingzhi).

Reishi is an incredibly beautiful, tree-growing mushroom. It comes in many forms, but the one we use is Ganoderma lingzhi. It has a red lacquer color and is kidney-shaped. It has been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine and has the evocative name "Mushroom of immortality".

Reishi tincture Extract

Reishi is not an edible mushroom (although some claim that it is edible) but you take it mainly in the form of a dietary supplement. It has become more popular as a wider selection of mushrooms is used in Sweden. In addition to Reishi, we can mention Chaga and Lion's Mane.

Reishi grows on tree trunks, but can also be cultivated on rice. There is an ongoing debate about what is best to make a tincture from. Is it the fruiting body (i.e. the mushroom) or is it cultivated Reishi (i.e. mycelium)? There are advantages to both variants, with an emphasis on the mushroom body as this form of preparation yields more beta-glucans. At Örtfabriken we only have tinctures on the mushroom body.

Reishi Ganoderma Immune system

At Örtfabriken, we aim to integrate more mushrooms and algae into our everyday lives. One way we do this is by taking the Reishi mushroom in tincture form . Tincture can also be called extract. The tincture is prepared in a two-step process. First a water bath and then with alcohol. There are various substances in the mushroom that we want to take advantage of. For example, beta-glucans, which are a form of fiber, and triterpenes and antioxidants. More active substances are extracted through a two-step process.

The tincture has a very long shelf life, thanks to the alcohol. By taking 10-20 drops, we can enjoy Reishi in a simple and sustainable way.

There is a lot of folklore surrounding Reishi. The name is Japanese. Traditionally, the mushroom was hung by the front door to keep evil spirits away. It is used as a good luck charm at weddings and is often kept at home. According to Chinese medicine, Reishi is a highly spiritual mushroom as it helps people on a spiritual level and has the ability to give eternal life. Hence it is called the Immortality Mushroom .
