Have you also heard more and more about Lions Mane (Hericium erinaceus)? At least we have. But when you start to scratch the trends, you quickly discover that this is not new at all. In China, Lions Mane is widely used. They often use it in powder form in cooking or drink it as tea. There are also a multitude of drinks and bars.
Isn't it beautiful? I can't imagine a greater happiness to see it in its true habitat. Wild and wavy. It has also been called the Spirit Mushroom. If you close your eyes and imagine this amazing creature, you can't help but think that the name fits well.
It is possible to grow Lions Mane at home and on logs, relatively easy with ready-made starter kits available to buy. It doesn't seem too difficult. You need logs from deciduous trees and these should be felled in the spring. You need a drill and the mushroom plugs with the mycelium (root system) which you press into the holes which are then covered with beeswax.
We have to try this this spring! It's even easier to grow on sawdust. Then it looks like this:
The mushroom is used both as a support for humans and as a delicate dish. It is said to taste like crab when cooked. It contains, like all other mushrooms, beta-glucans and triterpenes. Lions Mane is distinguished by containing the substance diterpenes, of which Herinacin A is the reason for the hype right now and why it is called a nootropic .
Make sure your Lion's Mane product is made from the mushroom body itself and not the mycelium (i.e. the root system).
At Örtfabriken we are very passionate about mushrooms. Read more of our blog posts and feel free to comment! According to regulations, we are not allowed to state what Lions Mane is good for or any side effects, but there is a wide range of facts and information to take advantage of online. Hej Per!
