DIY Rose Face Cream | Recipe

This fragrant face cream turned out exactly as we wanted it. In fact, it's absolutely wonderful!

This summer we made a glycerine based fresh rose petal scent bomb. That's the pink liquid you see in the picture. Glycerin is often used in skin care as it retains moisture well. It works well as a face cream. But the question was just how we would go about making the face cream in the best way. We searched for a long time for recipes and explored different ways to use rose and glycerin. In the end, we decided that we wanted to try modifying a couple of recipes.

The result is a faintly pink cream with a lovely rose scent. We'd like to beam out the scent to you, but imagine a wild rose on a hot late summer evening. Something like that.

The face cream is based on shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax and rose glycerin. Several of us are currently testing it, at different ages and with different skin types. It may be perceived as too oily for oily skin, but for me it is perfect for this winter.

Step 1 of the recipe is to make a tincture of glycerin and rose petals. Glycerin is a viscous, sweet liquid made from vegetable fat. You can use dried rose petals if you don't have access to fresh rose petals. Contact Örtfabriken if you need rose petals.

Ingredients:

  • 3 parts glycerin
  • 1 part water
  • Rose petals

Glycerin on fresh rose petals

The liquid should cover the rose petals. We wanted to make a concentrated rose glycerate and therefore made a water bath. The rose glycerin was allowed to soak in a water bath for about 1 hour on low heat. We poured the rose glycerin into a clean glass jar, put a lid on it and let the jar stand in the dark for another 2 weeks. Then strain it and store in the refrigerator. Done!

Now it's time to move on to step 2 , making the face cream itself.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp organic Shea butter
  • 1 tbsp Beeswax organic
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil organic
  • 3 tbsp Rose Glycerin (from step 1)
  • 10 drops of vitamin E
  • 10 drops of Geranium essential oil, 10 drops of Bergamot essential oil

Melt shea butter, beeswax and coconut oil. A good way is to melt them in a glass jar, which you place in a saucepan with water. Remove the glass jar from the heat and add the rose glycerin and vitamin E. Stir thoroughly so that it does not clump. When the temperature has dropped to 30 degrees, add the essential oil. Stir. Pour into jars and let cool for 1-2 hours. Ready!
