This is how our Happy Immunity came about | Our formula | Propolis

Our Happy Immunity is an experience! When we developed this recipe, we wanted to include herbs that we love and enhance them with Vitamin C to give you a tincture that contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

In the back of my mind, I had an herb that I'm particularly fond of and have spent years getting to know - Elecampane. It simply had to be included in Happy Immunity. We want to introduce more elderberries, as we don't have a long tradition of using the berries themselves. During my herbalist training with the legendary herbalist Rosemary Gladstar, I deeply experienced the power of elderberries. It's time for us to use them more!

Adding Propolis was our partner in Latvia's suggestion. In Latvia, there is a deep and vibrant herbal tradition. They use a lot of Propolis. Firstly, the knowledge is there, and secondly, there is access to very fine Propolis from small beekeepers. These herbs complement each other, and together with Vitamin C, we created an amazing mix that contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

Said and done - after many discussions with our partner in Latvia, we arrived at the ultimate recipe. Our partner immediately started producing the tincture. It took four weeks for the first sample to be ready! Tinctures are true craftsmanship, so patience is key.

When I received the Happy Immunity sample, I was hit by a taste explosion! The combination of herbs is indescribable, but the Propolis definitely stands out. We took our time testing Happy Immunity with family and friends. Some love the taste. Others need to get used to it. I wonder what you will think ♡

We have tested it when we needed to focus on our immune system, with good results. The recommended daily dose is 30 drops, but as usual, it's important to experiment. Do you need a significantly lower dose – or should it be higher?

Our herbal tinctures are carefully formulated and tested in collaboration with our partner. Örtfabriken's black bottle protects the tincture longer than other glass. You can read about our bottle in our blog. Perhaps you'll be tempted to reuse it for something else!

Happy Immunity: Formula and Ingredients

Propolis created by our busy bees

Propolis

Propolis is a product created by bees. Like all bee products, propolis varies in taste and color depending on which plant parts the bees have collected. Bees process resin, pollen, and seeds with their saliva, and this forms a wax which they use to seal the hive. The wax acts as protection against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. You can eat Propolis. It is particularly suitable for making tinctures, as the alcohol used to create this craft dissolves active substances from the resinous product more easily. Propolis does not dissolve as easily in water and glycerin, for example. Some people chew on propolis.

As we wrote above, we are particularly proud of our Propolis, as it is an important component in a formula like Happy Immunity. Furthermore, we know that it comes from small beekeepers in Latvia. It gives a distinct taste to Happy Immunity. Avoid propolis if you have previously reacted to bee products.

Elecampane (Inula helenium) an ancient medicinal herb

Elecampane (Inula helenium)

With Elecampane, I had one of my most powerful experiences with herbs. I don't remember who I got the Elecampane from, but it's the roots you want to use. I used it one day when I needed to get back on track. I made a decoction of Elecampane and was first positively surprised when I saw its blue-purple color. The taste was totally overwhelming. Perfumed, super delicious. Like wild angelica. I sipped on the Elecampane all morning, while running errands by car. Suddenly, I was completely here and now. It was such a marked feeling that I have since studied Elecampane, in several ways.

Esoterically, Elecampane is an herb used for those who are between "different worlds" and who need to come down and be in the present moment.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Elecampane is warm and is used to draw moisture out of the body. I personally believe that it is this property that contributes to Elecampane's experience of strong presence. It is included in our Happy Immunity because it is an obvious candidate, but also because it subtly adds warmth to our formula.

Read this fantastic blog post if you want to delve deeper into the world of Elecampane.

Elderberries for making your own herbal medicine

Elderberry (Sambucus nigra)

"There is a wise old woman, the Elder Mother, who lives in the tree" .. "you must pay attention to her; listen to her, and look at that glorious elder tree!"
H.C. Andersen

Elder grows abundantly in our part of the world, and as the text above suggests, there is much folklore about Elderberry. For my part, the elder is a very important member of my garden. If there's one thing I've missed when living abroad, it's the elder. The taste of elderflower cordial is unmistakable and cannot be replaced by anything else. And I love the white color of elderflowers with a splash of lime green.

But the elder is amazing in so many other ways. In Sweden, we mostly use the flowers of the elder, and we primarily use elder for cordial and as a flavor enhancer. In other parts of the world, for example, the USA, they instead use elderberries extensively as a liquid preparation in autumn and winter. Elderberry elixir is very common – a fantastic recipe that Örtfabriken has written about here.
Many wonder if elderberries can be eaten and if they are poisonous. You must heat the berries to avoid any discomfort from them. Many people also freeze elderberries.

Elderberries are called Elderberries in English. Here we recommend our herbal teacher Rosemary Gladstar, who writes about how elderberries can be used. Örtfabriken naturally chose to include elderberries in our Happy Immunity! We are so happy to be able to offer you elderberries in this way.
