This month we thought we would highlight herbs on the theme of energy and vitality . We are in the middle of the Ox weeks and we may need a little extra help. Within the herbal world you can find many nice, new friends among the adaptogenic herbs. Adaptogens are a collective name for herbs and mushrooms that have a certain effect on us.
We highlight some of the most well-known adaptogenics here:
♡ Ashwagandha - an adaptogenic herb that has been used in Ayurveda for centuries. Adaptogenic herbs help us " adapt to stress ". They give us endurance. A very distinctive scent. Not for nothing does its name mean " horse smell " in English.
♡ Siberian Ginseng - the root that the Russian miners benefited from in their hard work. It does not belong to the ginseng family but it has the same effect. The good thing about Siberian Ginseng is that it is not endangered like the Asian ginseng (Panax Ginseng). For this reason, more herbalists choose to work with the Siberian root instead of the Asian ginseng.
♡ Reishi - a beautiful, shimmering red mushroom belonging to the Ganoderma genus. It is sold as food, but it can be difficult to prepare it in an appetizing way. Therefore, more people use it in the form of capsules, tablets or as a tincture.
♡ Licorice Root - Licorice comes from the Mediterranean region and western Asia. The root of the licorice plant has been used as an herb for thousands of years. Licorice root is often used as a sweetener and we may not be as familiar with its uses as an herb.
♡ Schizandra - Known as the fruit of the five flavors. Small red berries with a taste sensation all their own. You either love it or hate the taste (but by all means use it anyway).
Other adaptogenics are Rhodiola rosea, Chaga, Lion's mane, etc.
